About

Penang Island

Tucked away in the northwest corner of Malaysia, the island of Penang is an endearing contradiction. Modern skyscrapers in the capital city of George Town rise next to noisy wet markets and age old temples. Past the ritzy beach resorts on the northern coast are fishing villages, rubber plantations and jungled hills.

YWAM Penang

We are a Christian training and community development centre operating in Penang, Malaysia affiliated with Youth With A Mission as well as the University of the Nations since 1986. YWAM Penang operates cooperatively via volunteers in a variety of capacities whether short term or long term.

Mission & Vision

Our vision is to see waves of young people positively influencing every sphere of society in Malaysia as well as the surrounding nations caring, connecting, serving and building.

YWAM Penang is a cross-cultural missions community, discipling believers to disciple nations

  • YWAM Penang is a cross-cultural missions community living in a mentoring environment with a common passion to reach Asia for Christ.
  • YWAM Penang disciples believers to know God, their identity in Christ, and his transforming work of grace so that they think and act biblically in every sphere of life.
  • YWAM Penang disciples the nations by training and sending leaders, teachers and church planters to influence all areas of society with the gospel.

YWAM International

Youth With A Mission is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. Also known as YWAM (pronounced “WHY-wham”), we unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known. We currently work in more than 1,100 locations in over 180 countries, with over 18,000 volunteer staff.

Since 1960 and as YWAM has grown over the years, it has developed as a family of ministries, rather than a highly structured, centralized agency. Although we have offices that serve YWAM globally, we do not have an international administrative headquarters. Our decentralized structure encourages multi-cultural leadership and the exploration of new ways to change lives.

Each YWAM location is responsible for initiating training programs, planning outreaches, recruiting volunteers as well as staff, fundraising and defining their objectives and activities. All YWAM locations embrace the purpose of YWAM, to know God and to make Him known. They also are expected to uphold the values of YWAM and are held accountable to these principles and convictions.
