Youth With A Mission does not provide salary for staff. From the International President to the newest recruit, each staff member in YWAM is responsible for raising their own financial support. The following provides further information regarding faith and finances:

God sometimes uses finances as a way to stretch our faith when we consider getting involved in His work. Experience has shown us that many people coming into YWAM lack a good understanding of faith and finances.

It is important to put our trust in God and believe He will provide for all of our daily needs, including tuition/staff fees, outreach costs, and living expenses. Why?

  • It is biblical. There are a number of examples in Scripture that show where God has others provide for those in ministry. See Luke 8:1-3; Matthew 10:5-10; Philippians. 4:15; 3 John 5-7; and 1 Kings 17:8-16.
  • It promotes healthy and stronger relationships. As we give to each other and pray for each other, we naturally gain a deeper friendship with that individual or group.
  • It helps us learn to trust God more. Trusting God to meet our needs helps us realize our absolute need for and utter dependence upon Him. As God provides for us our confidence in who He is grows.

Faith is always based on God's character and His Word. The Biblical definition of faith from Hebrews 11:1 is "being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." It is when we hear God's word (Romans 10:17) and believe that whatever He has promised will happen.

YWAM Penang staff are asked to establish and maintain the following minimum support levels:

  • RM 1000 per month for singles.
  • RM 2000 per month for married couples.
  • RM 750 per month for each child.

The minimum support level will enable you to pay for staff fees, rent, simple transportation (i.e., bus or motorbike), toiletries, supplies, and other basic needs. Please note that the above figures are based on a very simple Malaysian living standard and may not provide what those from other nations may deem as a comfortable standard of living. For those who feel they need air conditioned housing, a diet high in imported foods like milk and cheese, and imported toiletries and supplies, this amount will not be adequate. Health insurance, education for children, extensive travel and/or the purchase of an automobile will require additional funds.
