Faith missions. A call to disciple Asia's unreached peoples. A missions movement from Penang into the nations. Penang's early missions fathers laid these spiritual foundations through their sacrifice, their prayers, and their going. God has called YWAM Penang to build on these foundations to complete the work that they began.
The History:
In the 1700s, the Protestant churches in England heard and responded to God's call in the Great Commission to disciple the nations. It started with sending William Carey to India, and the founding of the London Missionary Society (LMS). In 1819, the LMS started one of the earliest mission stations in Southeast Asia at 35 Farquhar Street in Penang to reach from Malaysia into the region.
When China opened up in 1842, the LMS relocated to its port cities leaving the Brethren missions to continue and build on the work already established at Penang's Mission House. The Brethren mission was backed by organizations including the London-based Chinese Evangelisation Society, Hudson Taylor's first sending agency, & George MĪller's Scriptural Knowledge Institution in Bristol. The mission house still standing at 35 Farquhar Street is the remains of the 1876 Brethren mission house built on a portion of the original property first used by the LMS.

The Call:
Just as the London Missionary Society & Brethren missions stirred a slumbering British church to foreign missions, the church in Malaysia has received the same call of God to disciple the nations.
Building on their prayers, imitating their faith and obedience, YWAM is calling the churches and missions societies of Malaysia to complete what their early founders began. Our God-given mandate is to take the good news of Jesus Christ to every unreached people group of Asia, until we see an indigenous church-planting movement established in their midst.
The Partnership:
YWAM Penang, partnering with the local church and other missions agencies, is committed to the call of God to disciple the nations of Asia through evangelism, training, and mercy ministries. Special focus is given to migrant workers to evangelize, train, equip, & send them back to their nations as ambassadors of the good news.
This equipping focuses on discipleship and community development relevant to the unique needs of each people group and their locale. Our partnership also extends to churches and missions agencies in their nations of origin to provide follow-up and support.
