Malaysia
After the Lord spoke to us about embracing Malaysia at the staff retreat in August ’05, it was decided to make Malaysia our first priority as a target nation. Some of the ways we have been involved in doing this are: coffee house ministry to our neighboring TAR College Students, hosting outreach teams to minister locally, promoting missions among Malaysians in local churches and Kawan ministries (Drop-in Centre and Opp. Shop)
Indonesia
Several of our staff have made regular evangelistic visits throughout this culturally diverse group of islands, targeting the people in both the cities and the jungles. In 2002, YWAM Penang decided to make Wilaya (region) 1 (Sumatra and Java) our major target area in Indonesia. YWAM Indonesia has requested that we do all we can to strengthen their DTS and other schools by training and sending teachers.
A YWAM Penang staff team worked with YWAM Singapore and YWAM Indonesia to plant a Biblical Core Course in the nation.
China
Through our School of Frontier Missions, YWAM Penang has sent a number of long-term church planters to China’s Yunnan Province and Macau, reaching out to three of China’s people groups. We have also sent many short-term teams into China who have partnered with our long-term missionaries in the different works they are doing.
Since a third of Malaysians are of Chinese descent, we are also working to mobilize Malaysia’s Mandarin speakers to go and reach China with the gospel.
Nepal
Since 1997 YWAM Penang has been sending evangelism and teaching teams from the DTS, SBS, and BTPS into Kathmandu, Pokhara and rural Nepali villages. Several YWAM Penang staff have strengthened the SBS in Pokhara. Two other staff teams also worked with YWAM Pokhara to plant the BCC and BTPS in Nepal. With a growing number of Nepali migrant workers in Penang, a church planting ministry to this population has developed right here in our backyard!
After several short-term opportunities to teach in North India, YWAM Penang helped to start the first Nepali-speaking SBS in Manali, as there are many Nepalis in the region. We equip church planters and continue to send teaching and evangelistic teams to disciple and build up already existing relationships
Vietnam
There has been an explosive ministry to Vietnamese migrant workers in Ipoh, with scores coming to salvation regularly. YWAM Penang has helped to partner with the base in Ipoh to carry on this ministry and also seeks to reach out to the workers in our area. We have also sent teams to both South and North Vietnam to support and encourage the YWAM work going on there.
