Kawan

Kawan (which means ‘friend' in the Malay Language), is a drop-in Center situated at 37 Love Lane, in Georgetown, Penang. We serve the street based community whether that be those who are homeless, drug users, sex workers and people from poor backgrounds. The Kawan ministry provides free services such as breakfast, lunch, bathing & laundry, a rest area, hair cutting facilities and referrals to other service centers. We can serve around 100 people each day we are open.

A team from Kawan goes out onto the streets of Georgetown every Wednesday evening to build further relationship with people on the streets and we run a street church service on Saturday mornings where around 25 people attend.

We also run a charity shop to serve the local community. We have seen that the streets of Georgetown is a harvest field that is ripe for harvest, yet the workers are few. Would you like to come and join us on the adventure of working with God to see His kingdom come on the streets of Georgetown? If so do email us and look at the staff application forms attached to this site.

Male Residential Workers for a Half Way House

As we have been working with people on the streets at the drop in center we have seen the growing need to provide a stable housing environment for people who really desire to see their situation change. We are having people who are just starting their walk with our Father and need a good discipling environment in order to grow.

Do you have the heart and the patience to live with and disciple broken people who desire to move on with our Father and see change in their lives? This is a project we hope to start in the future but are in need of staff to be committed to this project. Would you like to be part of pioneering this work? If so, then do email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
