Kawan

KAWAN is a drop-in Centre situated at 37 Love Lane, in Georgetown, Penang. It was founded to address the pressing needs of the street based drug user community. Not only does it cater to their physical needs, KAWAN is committed to providing information, education and care services relating to HIV/AIDS.

KAWAN is the Bahasa Malaysia word for 'friend'. The KAWAN ministry provides free services such as bathing & laundry facilities, referrals to other service centres, monthly dental care & hair cut, etc.

In providing these services, KAWAN aims to:

• to help minimize the rate of infection of HIV/AIDS amongst the drug community
• to provide care, support and improve the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS
• to help reduce discrimination of the community based on ignorance and lack of information
